Avoid Intoxicated Driving in Summer 2022

In 2021, Texas saw 19,076 accidents that were caused by driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Each of those crahses represents a potentially fatal incident, and it’s important that drivers take the danger of drunk driving seriously. Follow the tips below to ensure that you never take the risk of driving while under the influence.

  • Don’t Go Out Alone – If you want to drink, don’t go out by yourself. Have someone join you that can help keep you accountable. If you are out alone, order a non-alcoholic drink.
  • Don’t Give Into Pressure – If you are expected to drive home after a party, do not join in in any drugs or alcohol consumption. It may be hard to stick up for yourself, but the consequences of a DUI accident are not worth it.
  • Choose a Designated Driver – When you are out with a group, pick a designated driver who can drive everyone home. Take turns being the designated driver each time, and don’t pressure the driver into joining in the drinks or drug use.
  • Call for a Ride – Everyone wants to join the party? Call for a ride from friends, family, taxi, or other transportation services.
  • Don’t Ride With an Intoxicated Driver –  Keep yourself safe by not riding in a vehicle where the driver had one too many. It may save your life.

As we move into the peak of summer 2022, it’s important to keep roadway safety in mind. Summer months tend to see more drivers on the road, especially later at ight when poor light conditions and alcohol consumption can make crashes more likely.

This summer, talk to your loved ones about the risks of drinking while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Remind them that the danger posed by these behaviors is never worth risking, and that their safety and wellbeing means more to you than partying or having a good time.

No matter what the reason, whether you forgot to ask for a designated driver or just don’t feel like finding a place to sleep where you’re at, driving while you’re drunk or high is never the right choice.
