Northeast Houston Crash Leaves 3-Year-Old, Woman Dead

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 10th, a traumatic car crash in Northeast Houston tragically took the lives of a 3-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman.

Details About The Incident

According to local officials, the accident occurred at around noon and took place at the intersection of Lee Road and the Beltway.

The accident occurred after the driver of a Buick Park Avenue, carrying the boy and the woman, ran a red light heading north of Lee Road.

An 18-wheeler traveling westbound on N. Sam Houston Parkway East service road ultimately struck the Buick.

As a result, the Buick also tan into 2 other vehicles that were parked in a gas station near the intersection. Everyone that was inside the Buick were all rushed to the nearest hospital.

The driver did not suffer any significant injuries; however, the 3-year-old boy and 25-year-old woman were pronounced dead later at the hospital.

Authorities are still currently investigating the specific details that led up to the accident, and no charges have been filed thus far.

The Consequences Of Ignoring Traffic Signals

Traffic signs and signals were designed and implemented for the sole reason of having drivers and pedestrians alike have safe, regulated use of the roadway.

Unfortunately, some individuals may decide to ignore these signs for whatever reason and end up causing a costly accident.

In a recent study conducted by the American Automobile Association , it was revealed that in 2017, approximately 939 individuals were killed in red-light running crashes, the highest rate within a span of 10 years.

The same study also concluded that:

  • More than 2 people are killed on a daily basis within U.S. roadways as a result of drivers running red lights.
  • Drivers who choose to run through red lights account for approximately 26% of all car crash fatalities that occur in signalized intersections.
  • Passengers and/or individuals on opposite vehicles account for 46% of red-light running fatalities, while drivers who run the red light only account for 35% of those deaths.
