One man was killed, and a 5-year-old child was injured after a rollover crash in San Antonio, Texas. The crash occurred on Saturday, September 3, at around 3:30 p.m.

The Rollover Crash

On Saturday, September 3, at around 3:30 p.m., a Chevrolet Blazer and silver pickup truck collided in the southbound lanes of Interstate 37.

According to witnesses, the Blazer was traveling on I-37 when the pickup truck driver attempted to move into the Blazer’s lane. The driver of the Blazer swerved to avoid a collision, but one of the pickup truck’s tires struck the front right corner of the Blazer. The impact sent the Chevrolet Blazer off the raised pavement edge and into the grassy median.

The driver of the Blazer attempted to correct but lost control of his vehicle. The Blazer flipped over in the grass, ejecting both the driver and 5-year-old passenger. A paramedic passing the scene of the crash stopped to perform life-saving measures on the driver but was unsuccessful.

The male driver of the Chevrolet Blazer was pronounced dead at the scene. An ambulance arrived later to take the 5-year-old boy to the hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

According to San Antonio police, the driver of the silver pickup truck is wanted for failure to stop and render aid. An investigation is still ongoing into the crash.

The Top 5 Mistakes Drivers Make When Changing Lanes

When we drive, we change lanes so frequently that it becomes second nature. However, there can be many unplanned changes on the road that interfere with those lane changes. Cars may speed up or slow down suddenly, traffic may start to back up, or another vehicle can decide to change lanes at the same time as you.

While there are times when you simply have to adjust to the flow of traffic, there are some consistent mistakes drivers make, including:

  1. Forgetting to use a turn signal
  2. Slowing down or braking before changing lanes
  3. Moving into a new lane at the last second
  4. Neglecting to check mirrors or blind spots
  5. Merging onto the highway or interstate before the car in front of them

Improperly changing lanes may not seem like a big deal to some drivers, but it can lead to a severe crash and even injury and death to the victims involved. All it takes is a split-second mistake like drifting into a new lane or forgetting to check your blind spot to cause a wreck.

The next time you head out on a busy road or freeway, make sure you use your signal, check your mirrors and blind spots, and maintain your speed before changing lanes. Doing so could prevent the injury or death of another driver on the road.
